Porto hosts the first edition of the forró festival with João Gomes in May

One of the biggest Brazilian artists today will be the star of the Forró Festival in Porto. João Gomes will be at the festival, which takes place on the 29th and 30th of May. It will also be the first edition of São João Gomes outside the country.

The festival, created by the forró singer, aims to take the roots rhythm throughout Brazil – and now also outside of it, starting in Portugal. More than the music, the party has the true atmosphere of a São João festival, it takes “crafts, cuisine and belonging”.

But the performance at the forró festival will not be the only one in Portugal in the coming months. The artist is confirmed at the Coala Festival, in Cascais, which takes place on the 30th and 31st of May.

João Gomes was recently in Lisbon, where he presented the show Dominguinho, which brings together musicians Jota.Pê and Mestrinho. All shows were sold out.

João Gomes gained national prominence by becoming one of the main names in piseiro, a northeastern musical style that mixes forró with more modern influences. Born in Serrita, in Pernambuco, he began to attract attention on social media by publishing videos of himself singing, until his songs went viral and reached an increasingly larger audience.

João Gomes quickly achieved success throughout Brazil and the world, mainly for portraying life in his songs, reflecting his origins. Songs like “Meu Pedaço de Pecado” helped to consolidate his career, and he is recognized today as one of the most important voices in music in Brazil.
