The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) reported the death of a Mexican migrant who was detained at the Glades County Detention Center, Florida, a facility managed by the county that maintains an agreement with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) for the custody of people detained for immigration reasons.
In a statement, the Government of Mexico stated that “These deaths are unacceptable, which once again demands a prompt and exhaustive investigation by the immigration authorities. to clarify the circumstances that led to this death, determine responsibilities and establish effective guarantees of non-repetition”

In turn, the Consulate General of Mexico in Miami activated the corresponding consular protocol, visited the detention center in question and will continue to carry out the corresponding steps to provide consular assistance and accompaniment to the family members.
Through said representation, the reports and documentation necessary for the full clarification of the facts have been formally requested. US authorities have indicated that the case is currently under investigation.
“The pertinent diplomatic efforts will be made to actively urge the US federal government to address the conditions that facilitate this type of regrettable events. All possible legal avenues will be used to ensure support for the family members.”indicated the Foreign Ministry.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated “its commitment to ensuring the protection and dignity of Mexican people in the United States and will not skimp on using all legal and diplomatic resources available to defend the rights of its community abroad.”
