Lovers of terraces and walks, the sun is back. But did you know that the level of UV radiation in mid-April is comparable to that in mid-August? The heat felt is certainly less, but the rays are there.
It is precisely this discrepancy between temperature and UV intensity that makes spring particularly risky. We have the “sunscreen” reflex when it’s 28 or 30°C, but not when the thermometer shows a pleasant 20°C. Result: we expose ourselves without protecting ourselves, often longer than we would in the middle of summer.
Skin weakened by winter
After months of cold and gray, our skin emerges from winter in a state of vulnerability. She has seen little of the sun, suffered from the wind and the cold, and therefore finds herself much less prepared to face UV rays.
Eyes no better off
Without forgetting the eyes, which are often neglected. The National Association for the Improvement of Vision reminds us: eye protection is not limited to summer. In April, the sun continues its rise in the sky until June 21, the date of the solstice. Wearing CE certified sunglasses is therefore not a luxury.
The right actions to adopt now
However, there is no question of remaining locked up. The spring sun also has virtues: it boosts morale, promotes the production of vitamin D and makes you want to move. It would be a shame to deprive yourself of it. You just need to adopt a few simple reflexes:
- Avoid the most exposed hoursbetween 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., even if the sky appears cloudy – the clouds do not block UVA rays;
- Apply sunscreen on all exposed areas, not forgetting the ears, the back of the hands or the nape of the neck;
- Renew the application regularly ;
- Cover yourself with light but protective clothing.
Particular attention is required with children, whose skin is even more sensitive to the effects of UV rays.
