The Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkianjoined the condemnations of Trump. “His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, I condemn the insult directed at His Excellency in the name of the great nation of Iran.”
At the same time, he declared “that the desecration of Jesus, the prophet of peace and brotherhood, is unacceptable for any free person. I wish him glory in Allah.”

Trump supporter calls him “antichrist”
He thus alluded to Trump’s publication in Truth Social, now deleted, where the president of the United States showed himself as if he were Jesus Christ.

The Italian Episcopal Conference, which “reaffirmed its full communion with the Holy Father Leo XIV,” expressed in a statement that it “regrets” the “statements directed against him in recent hours by the president of the United States, Donald Trump.”

Robert Emmet Barrona prominent American Catholic bishop, who currently serves as bishop of the Diocese of Winona-Rochesterwho has supported President Donald Trump and his policies, this Monday considered that the president should apologize to Pope Leo XIV.
Donald Trump responded that he would not apologize because Pope Leo XIV “said things that are wrong.” “He was very against what I’m doing regarding Iran. And you can’t have a nuclear Iran.”
Trump assured that “Pope Leo would not be happy with the final result”; and added, “There would be hundreds of millions of people dead; and that is not going to happen.”
The American president reiterated that he believes that Pope Leo XIV “is very weak on the issue of crime and other things.”
He noted that Pope Leo XIV made public statements and that he was only responding to Pope Leo XIV.
“And you know, his brother is very MAGA, and he’s a great guy, Louis; and I said, ‘I like Louis more than the Pope,'” Trump said.
