The sun shone for the Algarve on the evening of Monday, April 13th, with the awarding of the Repsol Guide’s highest distinction to two restaurants in that region. Villa Joya, in Albufeira, and Vista, in Portimão, were awarded Três Sóis at the Gala held at the Garcia de Resende theater, in Évora.
“It is work that has been developed for over eleven years. It is work that we believe in, It’s an incredible recognition for this dedication and commitment and it even gives us more desire to continue”, chef João Oliveira, at the helm of Vista, told DNwhich had already celebrated in the 2025 edition of the Repsol Guide, when the restaurant received Dois Sóis.
Likewise, Vila Joya also saw its number of Suns increase this year. “It’s a great motivation for the team”, chef Dieter Koschina told DNwho has run the restaurant since 1991.
With these two new winners, the total number of Três Sóis restaurants in Portugal rises to six, the others being: Belcanto (Lisbon), Il Gallo D’Oro (Funchal), Ocean (Porches) and The Yeatman (Vila Nova de Gaia).
Nine restaurants received Dois Sóis. Braga made its debut in the Guide with the distinction of PalatialMadeira achieved another double Sun with the Disarmin Funchal. In Porto, they were distinguished Antiqvvm, Aeon and Wide of the Passin Amarante. Lisbon holds the other four: JNcQUOI Asia, JNcQUOI TABLE, Midori and the new restaurant Henrique Sá Pessoanow under his own name.
Another 30 establishments received Um Sol, with many cities, on the mainland and on the islands, marking their entry into the Guide, such as Leiria, Beja and Ilha do Pico.
This was the characteristic highlighted by María Ritter, director of Guia Repsol, as the distinguishing feature of this year’s edition. “We have grown, not only in the total number of recommendations, but also in reach, reaching more places in Portugal and creating a capillarity that fills us with pride”stated the director.
In addition to the 41 establishments that received Sóis, another 79 won the Repsol Guia Restaurant award and were included in the list of recommendations across the country, totaling 120 highlights this year at the Gala. In addition to those awarded in the 2025 edition, which marked the return of the Repsol Guide to Portugal after nine years of absence, the country now has 298 restaurants, 102 of which are Um, Dois or Três Sóis.
