A Dunkin’ Donuts coffee shop, named She-brews, is set to rival Hebrews on ENC’s campus this fall.

Dunkin’ Donuts will be opening a new branch on ENC’s campus in the fall of 2014.

Dunkin’ has agreed to name the new location “She-brews.” Rick Harmon, director of food services, confirmed the rumors this week.

Harmon noted that renovations will begin over the summer and that the Dugout will remain where it is. She-brews will be located in the Colonel’s Café, the room adjacent to the Dugout.

She-brews will be a full-serve Dunkin’ Donuts, selling a variety of donuts, bagels, coffee, and other beverages.

The announcement of the new Dunkin’ Donuts, which is a well-known competitor of Starbucks, has caused some uneasy tension for Hebrews employees.

“I would join the Dunkin’ Donuts crew,” senior Michaelin Thomas, a current Hebrews employee, said.“It’s really based on [the] color [of the uniforms]. We’re just makin’ coffee.”

The two coffee franchises—Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks—seem to be in direct contention with each other. According to recent developments, the number of people in the U.S. being polarized by this issue is increasing exponentially.

“I believe that the Dunkin’ Donuts will be a bit more successful,” Thomas said. “I’ve heard from people that they like the taste of Dunkin’ Donuts as opposed to Hebrews. Starbucks’ quality tends to be darker [coffee].”

Some Hebrews employees, though, are unwilling to work at the new Dunkin’ Donuts location.

“I’m very loyal to my Hebrews customers and I’d hate to see them be disappointed that I switched allegiances,” sophomore Caitlin Schesser said.

Schesser believes that Starbucks’ quality will give Hebrews the upper hand.

“I think Dunkin’ Donuts burns their beans. I make sure at Hebrews that none of the beans are burned and every drink is to taste,” Schesser said.

The Dunkin’ Donuts-Starbucks controversy could increase tensions among students, faculty, and staff on ENC’s campus.

“It might cause a rift,” Thomas stated.  “People are divided in what taste of beverages they choose, so who knows.”

On this point, Schesser agreed.

“I think it will cause a division into three groups. On one side we’ll have Dunkin’ Donuts,” Schesser said, “on the other side we’re gonna have Hebrews, which is ‘Hey man! We were here first, this is our turf!’ In the middle are the peace makers, who have no idea what to do and will order from both.”

According to Harmon, alumna Ericka Mills is the top candidate to become manager of She-brews.

To be certain, the addition of She-brews to ENC’s campus will have a resounding impact for the future.
