Inflation increased from 2.1% in Februaryin relation to the same month. The increase of more than 6% in fresh food products explains that variation.
According to INE’s quick estimates, the 6.62% rise in the price of processed products is one of the reasons for the increase in inflationas all other categories registered variations below the general index. At issue is an acceleration of 0.81 percentage points (pp) compared to January.
Underlying inflation (excludes unprocessed food and energy products) advanced 1.9%, 0.1 pp more than in January.
At the same time, inflation excluding housing rose 1.95% in Februarywhile in processed food products an increase of 0.95% was observed. On the other hand, prices for energy products fell 2.24%.
Also in February, there was a 0.1% increase in monthly variation (contraction of 0.7% in January).
The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HIPC) increased by 2.1% (after 1.9% in January).
The definitive data will be released by IBGE on March 11th.
