A driver lost his license after infractions considered serious on the Nürburgring circuit in Germany this Saturday, April 18. Flashed at 192 km/h on a road limited to 60 km/h, the Pole had his driving license withdrawn.

On Saturday April 18, at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany, driver Oleksandr Kosohov was banned for life from the track. One of Max Verstappen’s rivals has had his driving license revoked following several incidents deemed serious by sporting authorities, reports Racingnews.

The most notable infraction occurred during the first phase of qualifying for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Oleksandr Kosohov deliberately ignored the “Code 60” security procedure. The Polish driver was recorded at a speed of 192 km/h in an area where the limit is set at 60 km/h.

Multiple offenses

The events took place on the Nordschleife, during a session of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS). The authorities considered that these failings went beyond the usual sporting framework. As a result, the driver lost his competition license, a rare decision for a license issued under the authority of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

The situation worsened when Oleksandr Kosohov was stopped at 201 km/h under a double yellow flag, although the speed limit was 120 km/h. This new offense led the commissioners to confirm the permanent withdrawal of his DPN license. In addition to his exclusion from the race, he received a 95-second penalty for his next possible participation.

Circuit officials justified this sanction by repeated infractions endangering other drivers and marshals. The file mentions in particular risky overtaking as well as non-compliance with runway limits and signage. This withdrawal of license now compromises the driver’s participation in upcoming sporting events.

The problems are piling up

This event takes place in a complex context for the Verstappen Racing team. Recently, driver Lucas Auer was involved in a collision with a Porsche Cayman during qualifying for the NLS4 race. This incident resulted in a three-place grid penalty, relegating the team to ninth position.

Last March, the team also suffered a disqualification after an endurance victory for a technical infraction related to tires. The team director then recognized an error in compliance with the regulations. The Nordschleife, nicknamed “the Green Hell”, remains one of the most demanding tracks in world motorsport.

An appeal procedure remains possible for Oleksandr Kosohov following this definitive exclusion. Meanwhile, the final race of the weekend is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. local time. Max Verstappen will start from fifth position, alongside his teammate Lucas Auer.
