The European Commission wants to teach European drivers to drive more efficiently in order to save on fuel costs. The European body is preparing to present measures aimed at responding to rising energy prices, as a result of the war in the Middle East. Among them comes the idea of changing consumers’ day-to-day habits, according to a preliminary document to which the Politico had access.
Among the proposals is the idea of “work on awareness and offer training on ecological driving” in order to reduce energy consumption. In parallel, plans are in the pipeline for car-free days in cities, expanding cycle paths, promoting deliveries by two-wheeled vehicles and requiring companies to limit air traffic for professional purposes.
At the same time, Governments should have incentives to promote at least one day of teleworking per week and reduce ticket prices for public transport or even make them free. “Europe cannot afford to continue being exposed to increasingly frequent energy shocks”can be read in the document.
