Competition for the construction of surveillance towers in Vale de Judeus is open for applications for the second time

The competition for the construction of two surveillance towers in the Vale de Judeus prison was, for the second time, without applications, the General Directorate of Reinsertion and Prison Services (DGRSP) told the Lusa agency.

The tender provided for the payment of 495 thousand euros for the work, and that organization is already working to launch a new tender, in the hope that some company will be interested in building the towers, one of the measures adopted by the Ministry of Justice to reinforce security in that prison establishment, after the escape of five prisoners in September 2024.

At the time the first competition was launched, in October 2025, Orlando Carvalho, general director of Reinsertion and Prison Services, had said that the value, which was around 418 thousand euros, was low.

Signal inhibitors are still being installed, the pilot project of which will take place in the Vale de Judeus prison.
