Consumption. Cadmium, lead… batches of avocados sold at Lidl recalled throughout France

They were sold in more than 600 Lidl supermarkets throughout France: avocados are being recalled due to exceeding the maximum authorized content of cadmium or lead, warns the government site Rappel Conso.

The affected avocados, sold in cardboard cases, have the GTIN code 20515102 and lot numbers 110627 L1401, 110627 L1403 and 110627 L1406. They were marketed from March 31 to April 7.

It is recommended not to consume them and to return them to the point of sale for a refund.

Other products concerned are non-organic avocados sold in nets of three (Les P’tits prix yes) or in bulk, bearing the GTIN code 20562328 and batch numbers L 14-04 and L 15-02. The maximum permitted cadmium content has been exceeded.

They were sold in 53 departmentslargely from western France, between April 3 and 10.

Cadmium is a heavy metal, present in soil, water and air, which “can promote the appearance of cancers or have negative effects on neurodevelopment and the cardiovascular system”, according to Géraldine Carne, from ANSES, who recently published an opinion on the subject.

In both cases, Lidl has made a telephone number available to consumers: 008005435543.
