Food basket has already increased by 7% since the beginning of the year

The essential basket of 63 products rose R$1.57 last week, up to R$259.52. This is another record, even though the increase is below that seen last week (almost three reais).

The calculations are from Deco Proteste and indicate that, between April 8th and 15ththe biggest increases concern sliced bread (12% to R$2.62), onions (11% to R$1.43/kg) and curly lettuce (8% to R$2.59).

Since the beginning of 2026, the value has risen 7.32% to R$17.69 above that observed at the end of last year. Compared to what was registered exactly one year ago, there was an increase of 9.56% to R$22.65.

It is worth remembering that prices have soared since the start of the war in the Middle East, which caused the price of fuel to soar and, consequently, the costs of companies that transport goods.
