Nobody saw him fall into the water: a man dies drowned between two boats in a port

This Sunday, April 19, a dramatic accident cost the life of a septuagenarian at the port of Rives, in Thonon-les-Bains. The man was discovered by boaters in cardio-respiratory arrest before being treated, without success, by the emergency services.

The tragedy took place late in the afternoon, around 5 p.m. According to the first elements collected, the victim, a 75-year-old man, was transporting heavy loads on the docks when he fell into the water between two boats, reports the Dauphiné Libéré.

The accident occurred in an area outside the field of view of the port’s surveillance cameras, making the fall invisible in real time.

An attempt at resuscitation by witnesses

It was witnesses, who entered the marina on board their boat, who saw the victim’s body underwater a few minutes after the tragedy. The latter did not hesitate to jump into the water to extract the septuagenarian from the lake and immediately begin resuscitation maneuvers on the quay.

When they arrived, firefighters took over first aid to try to revive the victim. Despite their prolonged efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. An investigation has been officially opened to determine the exact circumstances of this fatal fall.
