One person died and another suffered injuries considered minor due to a collision between two vehicles, followed by being run over, which occurred this morning on Main Route 2 (IP2), in the municipality of Beja, revealed Civil Protection.
A source from the Baixo Alentejo Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command told the Lusa agency that at 9:25 am the body of the fatal victim was still at the scene, while the slightly injured person had already been transported to the hospital in Beja.
The accident and the collision occurred at kilometer 336.2 of IP2, in the parish of S. Matias.
Road circulation in the area is being carried out in a conditioned manner, that is, the lane is interrupted in the north-south direction, but traffic is being processed on the other side of the road.
The source from the Baixo Alentejo Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command, who did not yet know the gender and age of the victims, said that the alert for the accident was given at 7:16 am.
15 operatives were mobilized to the site, supported by 10 vehicles, including resources from the firefighters, the GNR, the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) – which activated the emergency and resuscitation medical vehicle (VMER) from the Beja hospital – and the company Estradas da Planície.
