A Hungarian national among Europe’s ten most wanted criminals was arrested on Saturday in Cancun, Mexico. Suspected of having led a major trafficking in cocaine and ecstasy, he must now be deported to Europe to be tried.

A Hungarian national, who is among the ten most wanted criminals in Europe, was arrested on Saturday April 18 in Cancun, Mexico. The man, identified as János Balla, was actively wanted for his involvement in extensive drug trafficking.

Suspect arrested in Mexico

Aged 48, he was the subject of several international arrest warrants, including an Interpol red notice and a Europol alert, according to The Parisian. In his country, Hungary, he is accused of having led a criminal network specializing in cocaine and ecstasy trafficking.

According to European authorities, this network was active between 2014 and 2015, orchestrating the transportation and distribution of drugs on a large scale. The arrest was carried out in the seaside resort of Cancun, during a joint operation by Mexican security forces.

As a result of the exchange of information with Hungarian authorities, János Balla, alias “Dániel Takács”, considered one of the 10 most wanted in Europe, was arrested.

The Mexican Minister of Public Security, Omar Garcia Harfuch, specified that this arrest had been made possible thanks to close cooperation with the Hungarian authorities. From now on, János Balla must be handed over to the immigration services with a view to his deportation to Europe, where he will have to answer to the accusations brought against him.
