The madness of running in the streets of Montpellier
#HERAULT We know that urban trails are popular. The Montpellier Run Festival did not deviate from this trend throughout the weekend.
On Sunday April 19, there were nearly 5,500 (5,462 to be exact) runners ready to do battle in the marathon and half-marathon. In this little game, grueling all the same, Rédouane Aouarouer (Alès Cévennes Athéltisme) won the title over the queen distance in 2h 30mn 50s. The first woman, Sonia Larralde, completed the marathon in 3h 15mn 15s.
In all, some 18,000 runners will have trodden the streets of Montpellier during the weekend, supported by 700 to 800 volunteers at their service and a public present en masse as faithful, and useful, supporters.
Authorized drilling which is controversial
#SEVEN A prefectural decree authorizing drilling near the Issanka spring provokes the anger of elected officials from the City and the Agglo of Sète. At the beginning of April, the State authorized “soundings”, some of which could reach a depth of 80 m, as part of the work on the future Montpellier-Perpignan LGV line which will begin in 2029 for the Montpellier-Béziers part.
A contradiction “majeure” according to opposition elected official Laura Seguin, who highlights the declaration of public utility (DUP) of 1988 protecting the source which supplies Sète with drinking water from any pollution. The Hérault prefecture justifies its decree by highlighting “the need to acquire more data” before “being able to comment on the feasibility of the project” new line.
An argument contested by the municipal opposition group which intends to present this Monday, April 20, a motion to the municipal council demanding “strict compliance with the DUP of 1988” based on the equally protective water management plan approved by all representatives of the territory.
A law for votive festivals
#GARD The senators from Gard, Laurent Burgoa, and Bouches-du-Rhône, Stéphane Le Rudulier, wish to table a bill by the end of June on the civil liability regime for traditional festivals.
“This means that when the bullfighting event respects all the rules, the person who enters the course takes responsibility”specifies Laurent Burgoa adding that the text was signed by all groups in the Senate, with the exception of the Ecologists.
The text also aims to set up a guarantee fund for bullfighters and bullfighters to help people ordered to pay compensation, while some insurers have recently withdrawn.
The number of the day: 10
#HEARING This is in meters, the approximate size of the shark observed on Saturday April 18 off the coast of Port-la-Nouvelle by fishermen.
This harmless species, certainly a basking shark, was swimming in shallow waters less than a kilometer from the coast. This presence is regular at this time of the season.
The basking shark is classified as endangered in the Mediterranean by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
Wild boars in the park
#NIMES Firefighters and municipal police intervened on Sunday April 19 to try to dislodge nine wild boars who had taken refuge in a children’s park.
The animal unit was sent to get them out of the thicket in which they had been hiding. Alas, the animals, wild and unpredictable, remained hidden in the vegetation and the decision was made to close access to the park to let them leave.
The space being located in an inhabited area, the authorities obviously did not choose the dangerous option of shooting them down. And putting them to sleep was not possible.
