It will be a show to celebrate the diversity of the Portuguese language. This Wednesday, April 15the large auditorium of the Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon, will bring together the Orquestra Sem Fronteiras and Martim Sousa Tavares, Calema, Carolina Deslandes, Brazilian Jota Pê and Dino D’Santiago, one of the founders of the Mundu Nôbu project.
“For us it is an important moment to celebrate our work, above all because We are only now beginning to see the first results, beginning to understand the impact we are having on the lives of these young people“, tells DN Liliana Valpaços, co-founder of the project.
Created two years ago, Mundu Nôbu works with young people living in social neighborhoods in Lisbonwho begin participating in activities when they are between 14 and 18 years old. “Our program is four years old, it is a program inspired by an American methodology that we brought to Portugal and adapted, so it is a long-term project”, explains Liliana Valpaços.
“Let’s work with them on their transition to adulthood and we work on two components that seem important and complementary to me. On the one hand, your self-confidence, your sense of self-image, your self-esteem, your ability to deal with adversity. Then we also build with them an individual life project that lives up to their aspirations and dreams and not, often, the stereotypes and labels that society imposes on them.“, adds the co-founder.
They are young like Hugo Pires ea Barbara Fortunato19 years old, who found in the project more confidence and encouragement to overcome some difficulties and doubts that life brings.
In Hugo’s case, the confidence to speak in public and be more comfortable in a group has already emerged, but the main thing has been understanding the paths to a stronger professional future. “Without the 12th year you can’t go anywhere, you can’t work. I only had the 9th year, so I’m thinking about finishing the 12th this year”, says the young man to DN.
Bárbara joined the project to “allow myself to have experiences that I never allowed myself before” he confesses, and says that “it’s been incredible”. So far, he has been in a theater group, went to a musical show for the first time and even had the courage to share a talent that was hidden with his colleagues in the group.
“I like singing and for the first time I started. I had never thought about being in this position and exposing myself at this level, so I feel that it is also completely useful just the fact that I can feel comfortable doing something so different”, says the young woman, who participated in a selection for the project and will sing at the Mundu Nôbu Experience, a show in which young people show their talent.
This Wednesday’s concert, in the large Gulbenkian auditorium, has free entry. Tickets can be collected on site from 4pm.
