The new RN municipality no longer wants to finance Jazz à Vauvert: For this 2026 edition, the festival is moving to Vergèze

This Friday, April 17, the organizers are taking the blame. They immediately announced the hosting of the 2026 edition in the nearby town of Vergèze.

Until now, it welcomed the greatest, from Imany to Paolo Fresu, including Didier Lockwood and Michel Portal. The Jazz Festival in Vauvert unexpectedly bows out this Friday, April 17, after the announcement by its organizers of the pure and simple cancellation of its 23e edition.

In a press release released during the afternoon, the organizers regret the tragic consequences of such a decision which they attribute directly to the new National Rally municipality in place in Vauvert. A decision that they rightly describe as “brutal”, barely two months before the start of the festival.

Removing Jazz à Vauvert means breaking the constant link with the intercommunal music school and the city’s schools. […] More than 6,000 children were able [grâce au festival] discover jazz or take part in educational concerts“, they regret, announcing at the same time that, thanks to the solidarity immediately put in place, the Jazz à Junas association has decided, with the support of many other local authorities, to create, for this year, Jazz à Vergèze, in order to be able to maintain the concerts.

Concerts maintained on the same dates

Maintaining this festival is, in our eyes, a symbol of resistance and commitment for all artists and audiences. So that Jazz, this music resulting from the oppression of African-Americans, continues to be played, everywhere and in complete freedom, come to Vergèze on June 26 and 27 with ErikTruffaz, Antonio Lizana, Youn Sun Nah, Bojan Z and Joe Bel, Celia Kameni, and Surpêche”, conclude the members of the Jazz à Junas association, which until now organized Jazz à Vauvert.

Contacted by telephone, Nicolas Meizonnet, new National Rally mayor of the commune, recognizes his desire to concentrate the cultural offering in Vauvert in events that he wishes “most popular“that the Jazz festival.”Demonstrations which will be held in the arenas, in accordance with my commitments to his voters. “, he clarified, continuing: ” During a recent cordial meeting, we effectively announced to the organizers our desire to no longer finance the Jazz à Vauvert festival in the future. A festival which received a subsidy of 65,000 euros per year until our arrival. However, for this year, we have also proposed to maintain it, provided that the constraints of its cancellation are impossible for the organizing team to assume. A team which, after a period of reflection, then came back to us to announce the decision to cancel the organization of the festival, from this year, in our commune and its transfer to a neighboring commune“.

For Jazz lovers in Vauvert, an appointment is made, always on the same dates of June 26 and 27, in Vergèze, at the Vergèze-Espace room.
