“Have a good trip, Sully”: 400 relatives, bikers and soldiers united for the ultimate tribute to Sully Maillot

The tribute to Sully Maillot brought together more than 400 people on the square in front of the Saint-Sauveur church. Families, soldiers and bikers welcomed the last journey of this 44-year-old biker.

The impressive gathering on the square in front of the Saint-Sauveur church in Castelsarrasin illustrates the immense emotion aroused by the disappearance of Sully Maillot. No less than 400 people, including around a hundred bikers, gathered to say a final farewell to the man nicknamed “Bip-Bip”. Disappeared at the age of 44 this Monday, April 6, Sully died following a road accident, in a collision between his motorcycle and a van in Montech.

He leaves behind several grieving communities. That of the military, since he served 23 years in the Army and ended his career at the CIEC, the basic driving instruction center in Castelsarrasin. Many of his former brothers in arms were keen to accompany him, from the church bench to his final resting place at Les Papillons cemetery.

The biker community is also in mourning, coming in numbers to pay tribute to “Bip-Bip”. Of course, members of La Confrérie, a biker association based in Saint-Porquier of which Sully was the treasurer, were present. They were joined by numerous motorcycle clubs from all over Tarn-et-Garonne and neighboring departments.

A massive presence came to support the deeply affected family and loved ones. Originally from Reunion Island, Sully, described as “solar” by those close to him, was also the link between all the members of his family scattered across the four corners of France. In ceremonial costume, in front of the flag of Reunion, it is with this photo that Sully’s family decided to honor him. It was printed in large format and framed, as well as reproduced on the sheets of the religious ceremony.

One last journey

It was accompanied by his biker friends from La Confrérie that Sully’s coffin arrived at the Saint-Sauveur church. At the end of the mass, Sully’s relatives then invited the 400 people to gather around the coffin, placed in the square. “We are going to pay a final tribute to Sully to wish him a safe journey.
