Thousands in Lisbon against labor package when Government wants to finalize negotiations

Thousands of people demonstrated this Friday, April 17, in Lisbon, against the labor package, at a time when the government has already admitted it wants to end the current negotiating phase.

The protest, organized by CGTP, started at 2:30 pm, in Saldanha, in Lisbon, and headed towards the Assembly of the Republic.

The protesters, of all ages, carried flags from the union center and associated structures and shouted slogans such as “Hiring yes, expiry no” and “poverty wages, rising rents, the people can’t take it, it’s time to act”.

The national demonstration, organized by CGTP-IN, under the motto “Down with the Labor package! Increase wages, guarantee rights, a better life is possible” takes place at a time when the Minister of Labor assured that there are only “two or three issues” preventing an agreement with the social partners and that she will end “this negotiation phase in the next few days”.

The Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho, will meet again today with the UGT and the four confederations for “small adjustments” in labor legislation.

On Thursday, after leaving the Social Concertation meeting, Palma Ramalho, indicated that the meeting served to “share with all social partners the latest version” of the proposed revision of labor legislation, in an allusion to the fact that the CGTP only has the initial version of the draft, presented on July 24, 2025.

On the same day, the CGTP denounced a “simulacrum” of negotiation, indicating that the minister met with employer leaders and the UGT before the Social Concertation meeting began, leaving the union central out.
