The ENC men’s golf team began their 2014-15 season finishing in seventh place at Commonwealth Coast Conference qualifier tournament.

The tournament was hosted by conference rival University of New England at the par-72 Dunegrass Country Club in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

The eight member team was paced in the tournament by freshman Jared Toney (Manassas, Va.), who shot a 99.  Sophomore Hunter Hill (North Wales, Pa.) and freshman Michael Pepin (Braintree, Mass.) both shot 108.

Hill, a second-year player, commented on this year’s golf team.

“It’s not so much about us winning, or worrying about how we finish. We want to have fun and get better every week,” Hill said, “I’ve been playing golf for a while now, and I am excited to be able to play on the college level.  I learn something new every time we compete, and enjoy being able to travel to different courses.”

Endicott, Western New England, Nichols, and Wentworth finished as the top four to secure their spots in the conference tournament this upcoming spring.

The Lions competed again on Sept. 24 at the Elms College Invitational in Granby, Mass.

Hill led the team with his score of 92. His teammates, including sophomore Frank Fusco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), junior Spyro Varetimos (North Attleboro, Mass.), and senior Nathan Russell (San Diego, Calif.) also finished with fair scores.

The Lions end their fall season competing at Westfield State Invitational on Sept. 30.
