The ENC Lady Lions basketball team was busy over winter break — going home to see family, traveling to Puerto Rico and of course, playing basketball.

While in Puerto Rico, the ENC Lions lost a tough game to the Puerto Rican team, Mayaguez, an NCAA Division II team. Coach Sacha Santimano explained that it was a hard game to play because the odds were against the Lions; the players had been traveling all day and for some, all night.

In the end, a modest Santimano stated, “All excuses aside, we lost.”

On the brighter side, the women’s basketball team enjoyed their stay in Puerto Rico. They explored the town, went paddle boarding in the ocean, went on a waterfall hike, and relaxed beside the ocean.

“The trip was way cool. It was a fun experience,” said freshman Syndi Oviatt, who found the bonding experience in Puerto Rico to be unique.

On January 2nd, the Lions returned to the ENC campus with no rest for the weary as they played two days later, beating Simmons College 70-57.  Within a week of their return from Puerto Rico, they also lost a nail-biter to Becker College 45-43 and beat Southern Vermont College 76-49. They most recently defeated conference rival Bay Path 79-23. Currently, the Lions’ overall record is 12-5.

The women’s basketball team still has many games to play to improve their standings for the NECC playoffs.

Santimano continues to remind her team to “focus on one game at a time because every game dictates our future.”

The Lady Lions play their home game February 2nd against New England College at 1 pm. Come out and support your peers!
