A 15-year-old high school student on an observation course dies after being hit by a forklift

He was on an internship with a company in Bagnols-sur-Cèze, in Gard, a town located about thirty kilometers northwest of Avignon (Vaucluse). A teenager aged around fifteen died this Friday around 8:30 a.m. after being struck by a machine in a materials company.

The teenager was “driving a forklift”. He “lost control of the machine and was ejected” before being crushed, according to a police source. Despite the rapid intervention of the firefighters, the student could not be resuscitated.

Carole Drucker-Godard, the rector of the Montpellier academy, expressed her “deep sadness”. She specified in a press release that she had “initiated an administrative investigation in order to shed light on the circumstances of this accident” and indicated that a psychological listening unit had been deployed within the victim’s educational establishment, the Sainte-Marie private vocational high school in Bagnols-sur-Cèze.

Another fatal accident and an alert from the CGT

Last June, the CGT National Education union denounced a series of “tragic accidents” which had cost the lives of three teenagers in company training in quick succession.

One of these accidents concerned a high school student from Saint-Lô (Manche), who died following an accident in the store where he was doing his internship. “During the handling of the pallet by the manager of the brand using a forklift, the goods tipped onto the young trainee,” indicated the Coutances public prosecutor’s office.

“With the explosion of internship periods in companies, young people are increasingly exposed to dangers without being prepared,” the CGT underlined.
