The message has been appearing on the screens at Nancy station for several days: during the weekends in May (except Saturday 9, Sunday 10 and Sunday 31), many trains will be canceled, totally or partially, and traffic “adapted” to the departure and arrival of this Nancy station.
For the largest lines, the Mulhouse-Troyes-Paris and Strasbourg-Paris-Nancy trains will be affected, but many other regional lines will also be impacted.
Substitute coaches are planned “but in limited numbers” specifies the SNCF, which even advises postponing your trip when possible.
Reason for these disturbances? Switch renewal work, carried out “in order to modernize infrastructure with the aim of maintaining and developing the level of performance of French railway lines”, details the SNCF Réseau subsidiary, in a press release distributed to mailboxes in Nancy.
The renewal of seven switches
Specifically, the work will involve seven switches at Nancy station and will take place mainly at night. Namely the nights of Mondays to Saturdays between May 4 and 13 (from 9:45 p.m. to 5:05 a.m., including public holidays) as well as from Friday May 15 to Sunday May 17 (from 11 p.m. to 11 a.m.), from Friday May 22 to Sunday May 24 (from 11 p.m. to 11 a.m.) and from Friday May 29 to Saturday May 30 (from 11 p.m. to 3 p.m.).
In addition, SNCF Réseaux specifies that this work could cause noise pollution for residents close to the construction site.
