With a crew of 38 soldiers, the NRP Tridente submarine departed this Tuesday, April 14, from the Lisbon Naval Base for an international NATO mission that will last around two and a half months.
During this mission, the submarine will take part in the Atlantic Alliance’s “Brilliant Shield” operation, but will also participate in “Dynamic Mongoose”, one of “NATO’s largest and most relevant anti-submarine warfare exercises”, as explained by the Navy in a statement.
In this exercise there will be, “simultaneously, the frigate D. Francisco de Almeida”, as a ship integrated in the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1), and an aircraft from the Portuguese Air Force.
The Navy says that the NRP Tridente submarine it will also support the Royal Navy’s Fleet Operational Standards and Training (FOST) activities for two weeks.
