More than 4,000 fans gathered in Berlin to discover Michael, the biographical film dedicated to the King of Pop. Despite general enthusiasm, the production faced criticism regarding the absence of accusations of child molestation on screen.
Friday April 10, thousands of fans gathered in Berlin to welcome the biopic “Michael” of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, reports franceinfo culture.
Led by Jaafar Jackson, the singer’s nephew, the film traces the rise of the icon and his family emancipation. However, the storyline ends abruptly in 1988, at the end of the Bad tour, thus obscuring the legal cases which marked the artist’s life from 1993 onwards.
A third of the initial scenario deleted by production
According to information from the specialist magazine Varietymuch of the film dealing with the star’s legal troubles was removed from the final cut. This decision would be linked to a legal clause prohibiting any representation of Jordan Chandler, the first teenager to have filed a complaint against the singer.
For fans in Berlin, this omission matters little. Many recall that Michael Jackson was never convicted by the courts during his lifetime. “He was declared innocent, says a fan after watching the premiere in Berlin.
Lionsgate studio is betting big on this release, with revenue forecasts reaching $700 million, reports Variety. While civil proceedings are still underway, the film, which will be released in France on April 22, suggests a sequel. Several spectators noted that the end of the feature film implied the preparation of a second part to cover the rest of the career of the King of Pop.
