Nearly 5,000 people gathered in Switzerland, at Martigny Expo, Saturday April 18, for the second edition of “The greatest raclette of the world”. A figure which confirms the growing appeal of these gastronomic reunions.
The cheese flowed on Saturday evening. “The greatest raclette of the world” brought together 4,942 guests, beating its own record set last year (4,893 guests). In the grounds of Martigny Expo, in Switzerland, participants, volunteers, organizers mingled in a warm atmosphere with the smell of cheese.
Two tons of cheese swallowed
The guests shared a Valais AOP raclette, served by the wheel, 788 half-wheels, or nearly two tons of cheese, were scraped over the course of the evening. All accompanied by 1500 kilos of potatoes and 2380 jars of pickles. To be able to serve thousands of raclettes, no less than 403 raclettes and volunteers mobilized for the occasion.
This new record confirms “the exceptional enthusiasm aroused by this event which has become in two years an emblematic meeting of the region and conviviality”, underlines Myexpo, organizer of the event, to RTS.
“It’s just incredible to see the enthusiasm of the scrapers. Everyone was excited, a lot of motivation, it was just magnificent. And already, many are asking when the next edition will take place”, underlined Eddy Baillifard, the ambassador of the event and of Valais AOP raclette to the Swiss media.
In March 2024, the first edition of the largest “raclonette” attracted 2,236 participants in Saint-Etienne (France).
