War in Ukraine: infrastructure of the largest Ukrainian port on the Danube on fire after a Russian attack

A new Russian drone attack targeted the Ukrainian port of Izmail, on the Danube, during the night from Thursday to Friday. The strikes damaged railway and port infrastructure without causing any injuries. Bucharest also confirmed that a drone had violated Romanian airspace during this large-scale offensive.

A Russian drone attack damaged the port infrastructure of Izmail, the largest Ukrainian port on the Danube on the night of Thursday April 16 to Friday April 17.

This port is located at the southwestern tip of Ukraine, on the border with Romania. Since the 2022 Russian invasion, it has become an important logistics area, frequently bombed by Russian forces. The attack caused fires, which were quickly brought under control by emergency services.

Another drone strayed into Romanian territory, Ukrainian and Romanian authorities said.

A missile and 172 drones launched in one day

“Attacks against port infrastructure in the region have continued for several days”indicated the ministry on Telegram, specifying that they caused no injuries.

On Thursday alone, Russia launched a ballistic missile and 172 drones into Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. The country’s air defense units shot down or neutralized 147 drones, but the missile and 20 drones hit eight targets, she added. The governor of the Odessa region said at least six residential buildings were hit.

The Romanian Defense Ministry said its radar systems had detected a drone that violated its national airspace during the Russian night attack on Ukraine.
