ENC’s women’s tennis team concluded their season last week with a 9-0 loss to Roger Williams on Oct. 2.

The women won their first game of the season 9-0 against Mount Ida on Sept. 5, but lost 10 straight to finish 1-10 (0-8).

Senior Julianne Atwater (Weymouth, Mass.) had the best record for the Lions this season, earning a record of 4-7 in singles’ competition. Atwater was tied for the most doubles’ wins also.

The Lions had two freshmen this season and multiple newcomers, but had to replace No. 1 and No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles partners, Sharon Lemire and Elise Sleeper.

Women’s tennis loses two more players this year; Atwater and Kelsey Waddle (Olathe, Kan.) are seniors.

Atwater said the team came together more this year than the other years she was on the team.

“Even though we didn’t win many matches, the season was a success,” Atwater said. “Every player got better, and the team bonded more than it ever has.”

Atwater said the women’s tennis team has a bright future.

“We have a lot of young players, so the program is definitely headed in the right direction,” Atwater said.
