A five-year program losing streak has just been broken. The Men’s Golf team secured their first win in program history.
This year, the Men’s golf team has seven players: Andrew Snodderly (Sr), Caleb Lynch (Sr), Sam Danis (Jr), Will Francis (Jr), Connor Simpson (Jr), Jacob Waldrop (So), and Michael Dietz (Fr). Deitz was the only recruited player for the 2017-18 season.
Upperclassmen Simpson commented on the team this year, saying, “It’s different in the sense that we have an actual team, last year we were short on recruits and experienced players. This season the guys want to get better and are trying hard to push each other to do so. We also now have the opportunity to compete in all of our matches or tournaments and I could not be more excited.”
Not only are the players excited but Head Coach Toni Kabilian is also ready for the rest of this season. Kabilian has been a member of the ENC community for a long time as the Athletic Trainer, and has even been a student-athlete herself while attending ENC. This year, however, Kabilian will also be going into her second year as the Head Coach for Men’s Golf.
This win means a lot to Kabilian. She says, “I am very excited for the seven guys I have on my team, the returning players worked really hard over the summer and the new guys that we added this year have made a big impact. That was the goal right from the begging to start a new tradition, and it is exciting to have a win at the first match of the season”.
When asked what she was most excited about for the season, Kabilian explained that she is looking forward to seeing the team improve and work hard. Kabilian, confident that “the best is yet to come,” has an optimistic outlook that the next few matches could likely be more wins for the books.
