A rescue operation mobilizes significant resources in Varilhes. Helicopter and ground teams are searching for a person who may have drowned in Ariège.
A major emergency device was mobilized this Saturday, April 18, 2026 afternoon in Varilhes, while a helicopter has been flying over the area for several hours. The “Choucas 09” is in fact engaged in a major rescue operation.
According to our information, confirmed by the public prosecutor of Ariège, Olivier Mouysset, this is “a rescue operation aimed at searching for a person who may have drowned”.
The helicopter would notably follow the Ariège river in the hope of locating the missing person. On the ground, rescue teams are also canvassing the area to support the search.
For the moment, no additional information has been communicated on the identity of the person sought, nor on the exact conditions of his disappearance. The intervention is still in progress.
